SUNY-ESF & CNY Section of American Chemical Society Co-Host Presentation by Dr. Stephen Cantor

The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF), in collaboration with the CNY Section of the American Chemical Society and RadTech International North America, hosted renowned chemist and lecturer Dr. Stephen Cantor on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. The presentation, entitled “UV Curing Technology: A Route to Solvent-Free Adhesives and Coatings”, was presented to a live audience in Syracuse, NY at SUNY-ESF’s Gateway Center, and was simulcast as a live webinar for participants nationally and internationally. The webinar was presented as part of the SUNY-ESF/RadTech International Future of UV/EB Advanced Manufacturing: Trends, Strategies, and Applications webinar series. The series, which presents timely and relevant trends, issues and applications, is a component of the Radiation Curing Program, an online three course suite and new short course to be launched in Summer 2014.

SUNY-ESF to Offer New “Short-Course” in UV/EB Curing

The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) is preparing to add a new short-course in ultraviolet / electron beam (UV/EB) curing to its existing Radiation Curing Program (RCP). The RCP, a three course suite of online courses, is designed for current employees in radiation curing related industries, as well as those preparing to enter the field, who wish to pursue a documented graduate-level professional development in this area. The new short-course, entitled “Principles of Energy Curing Technologies”, builds on that participant base to engage sales and customer service representatives, marketing and business managers, and regulatory agencies in the rapidly growing field in a cost-effective and convenient way.

The online course is typically completed in 10-15 total hours, although to accommodate workplace and other demands, participants will have four weeks to complete the course requirements.  Active engagement will provide participants with a broad overview of the science, materials, equipment, and processes used in Energy Curing. Taught by several industry experts, the instructional team has designed the program to teach participants how to recommend a high-level course of action when presented with a problem that may be solved by energy curing technologies and understand the advantages and disadvantages of the equipment and curing technologies commonly used in the industry.

The RCP, including the Principles of Energy Curing Technologies course, is made available, in part, by a US Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration H-1B Technical Skills Training Grant. The inaugural offering of Principles of Energy Curing Technologies will run from May 19, 2014 through June 13, 2014. A second summer offering will run from July 7, 2014 through August 1, 2014.
